Floodlit Pie & Peas Shoot!
Our next open shoot will take place on the evening of Saturday the 24th of March 2012. Seniors will shoot a National round, juniors will shoot National-family rounds appropriate to their age groups. Sighters will be at 5:00 PM with shooting starting shortly after.
Won't it be too dark, you ask? Not with our excellent floodlights on!
Won't it be too cold? Er...maybe, but there'll be hot pie and peas at the end, and hot drinks available at all times.
And this year, by popular demand, we will have a raffle. And stands that actually hold the bosses on.
Entry form (PDF)
Entry fee is a fiver, which includes the pie and peas. If you would prefer a vegetarian option, please email us.

Assheton Bowmen of Middleton, in north Manchester, hold an annual Novices Shoot for archers with less than two years' experience who have not yet exceeded Second Class. The round shot is an American. Phoenix member Meg Cowley went to the 2010 shoot and won the Ladies Recurve category. The next shoot takes place on the 20th of May 2012. Members who will have had less than two years' experience by May 2012 are encouraged to enter. See the entry form, or talk to Tim or Meg, for more information:

If you enter as a novice, you must have the form signed by a club official to confirm that you meet the eligibility criteria for awards. People who don't meet the criteria are welcome to enter the shoot, but will not be eligible for awards.
Who are we?
We are the Phoenix Bowmen, a target archery club based at Illingworth in Halifax, Yorkshire. We are a well-established club with a growing and active membership.
We are affiliated to the Grand National Archery Society, the Northern Counties Archery Society and the Yorkshire Archery Association.
Our location is at Halifax RUFC's ground on Keighley Road (the A629). We shoot both indoors and outdoors, depending on the season and the weather. We shoot recurves, compounds and English longbows. All shooting at the club is target shooting, but our members also take part in field archery and clout archery shoots.
We usually shoot imperial rounds, but also shoot metric rounds. Our main shoot is on Sunday afternoons from 1:00 PM. We also shoot outdoors on Saturday mornings from 10:30 AM.
All practising, prospective and returning archers are welcome. We can lend club equipment to people wanting to give archery a try. The facilities are safe for children.
Please note that we do not have suitable facilities for crossbows (and our constitution excludes the use of crossbows at the club) and we may not be able to handle large groups.
Learning, or having a go
We run have-a-go sessions regularly. We have run many sessions for schools, scout groups, Boys Brigades and community groups. We often provide have-a-go sessions for individuals and groups during our regular shooting sessions.
We run beginners courses during the outdoor season - see the Beginners page for more details.
Our next courses will start in March 2012.
Please contact the secretary to register your interest.
