Rochdale Charity Clout
Our neighbours Rochdale Company of Archers (Lancashire) will be holding a Tassel Award status double GNAS clout shoot on Sunday the 8th of September. The purpose of the clout shoot is to raise money for the preservation of the Flodden Window - Britain's oldest war memorial, and dedicated to archers. It commemorates the crucial contribution of the Middleton Archers to the battle of Flodden Field. The work on the window is part of the build-up to the 500th anniversary of the battle in 2013.
Flodden Field was the last battle on British soil in which longbows played a major role.

Floodlit Pie & Peas Shoot
Our sixth Floodlit Pie & Peas National was a great success. A full field of archers enjoyed welcome sunshine and warmth - at least till sunset. Several Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cheshire county records were broken.

Who are we?
We are the Phoenix Bowmen, a target archery club based at Illingworth in Halifax, Yorkshire. We are a well-established club with a growing and active membership.
We are affiliated to the Grand National Archery Society, the Northern Counties Archery Society and the Yorkshire Archery Association.
Our location is at Halifax RUFC's ground on Keighley Road (the A629). We shoot both indoors and outdoors, depending on the season and the weather. We shoot recurves, compounds and English longbows. All shooting at the club is target shooting, but our members also take part in field archery and clout archery shoots.
We usually shoot imperial rounds, but also shoot metric rounds. Our main shoot is on Sunday afternoons from 1:00 PM. We also shoot outdoors on Saturday mornings from 10:30 AM.
All practising, prospective and returning archers are welcome. We can lend club equipment to people wanting to give archery a try. The facilities are safe for children.
Please note that we do not have suitable facilities for crossbows (and our constitution excludes the use of crossbows at the club) and we may not be able to handle large groups.
Learning, or having a go
We run have-a-go sessions regularly. We have run many sessions for schools, scout groups, Boys Brigades and community groups. We often provide have-a-go sessions for individuals and groups during our regular shooting sessions.
We run beginners courses during the outdoor season - see the Beginners page for more details.
The March beginners courses are now under way. Our next course is likely to start in September 2013, unless we are able to run a course on evenings in May.
Please email the secretary to register your interest.
