Looking for the other Phoenix Bowmen?
Who are we?
We are the Phoenix Bowmen, a target archery club based at Illingworth in Halifax, Yorkshire. We are a well-established club with a growing and active membership.
We are affiliated to the Grand National Archery Society, the Northern Counties Archery Society and the Yorkshire Archery Association.
Our location is at Halifax RUFC's ground on Keighley Road (the A629). We shoot both indoors and outdoors, depending on the season and the weather. We shoot most types of bow, with a distinct preference for Olympic-style recurve. All shooting at the club is target shooting, but our members also take part in field archery and clout archery.
We usually shoot imperial rounds, but are happy to accommodate metric rounds. Our main shoot is on Sunday afternoons from noon. We also shoot outdoors on Saturday mornings from 10:30 AM.
All practising, prospective and returning archers are welcome. Day members are welcome. We can lend club equipment to people wanting to give archery a try. The facilities are safe for children.
We run beginners courses during the outdoor season, from April to October. Our April-May courses are now in progress. Our next beginners course will start in June 2008. A page of information for people who have already booked their place on the April-May courses has been created:
Notes for beginners April-May 2008
Please note that the information on that page is intended for people who have already booked their places on the April-May courses. It is NOT an invitation to turn up on the day without notice! If anyone who has not booked a place turns up, we cannot allow them to participate.
Please note that we do not have suitable facilities for crossbows (and our constitution excludes the use of crossbows at the club) and we may not be able to handle large groups.
Notices for members
We have a winner! Club member Oliver Robinson won his category at the Bronte Spring Weekend, in his first ever tournament. He won the under-12s category shooting a Bristol 1 round. Congratulations!
Field availability: The rugby club will be performing drainage work on the main pitch over the next few months, and re-seeding it. This means it will not be available for a period from mid-May to mid-August. The training field and the bottom pitch will remain available.
Club records: David King, our records officer, has created a list of who's got what classifications and who holds which club records. This can be seen in the container. He requests that any score sheets you want to submit are placed in the container in the designated folder (green) AAAANNNDDD... he'd like you to do them on proper club sheets please and TOTAL THEM UP!!! Blank sheets can be found in the orange folder.
